Dragons exist.

London as we know it doesn’t. Not anymore.

Dragon Zoo set the world alight, but when the fires eventually stopped burning, all that was left, all that remained, were survivors.

It’s been six years since the revelation that dragons exist, and five years since the opening of the first Dragon Zoo in London. Four years since dragons started appearing the world over and two years since the zoos lost control, since the world as we know it changed forever.

Humanity didn’t stand a chance. As soon as it became apparent that the dragons in Dragon Zoo weren’t the exception, that humans were at risk of no longer being the dominant species on the planet, a full war raged, a fight for our very existence, our way of life.

A fight that we lost.

A fight that we could never win.

Dragon Zoo Apocalypse is an action packed story of discovery and survival set after the events of the upcoming Dragon Zoo trilogy. Where did the dragons come from? Why did Dragon Zoo lose control? Where in London is safe? The small group of survivors are desperate for answers but need to remain one step ahead of the vicious and varied dragon species that now dominate the City if they are to succeed.

I think rake and the other should have captured a dragon and tamed it. That would have been cool.

Dragon Zoo Apocalypse edition by Martyn Perry Simon Carter Children eBooks Reviews

Dragon Zoo Apocalypse sets an atmosphere reminding of the post-apocalypse Fantasy-movie "Reign of Fire" with a more character-driven plot as fitting for a Young Adult novel. Setting the scene in a grim, dark world, the hero starts his journey in what once was The House of Commons in the ruins of post-apocalyptic London. Facing the powerful creatures of legend in a way the dinosaurs are portrayed in Jurassic Park, fans of monster horror literature will enjoy this riveting read. As a Fantasy fan, the mix of dragons, horror, post-apocalypse and young adult heroes, makes it easy to find enough things to like in this book and questions you need to have answered around the mystery of the dragons' origins.
I was on the fence with this book. I loved that the book was action packed, but there was something I was missing from this book. I can't quite put my finger on what about this book did not grabbed me the way I hopes it would. I would read something else from this author because I don't think it was the writing and I think I just didn't enjoy the book like I thought I would. * I received this book from the author in exchange for on honest review*
Dragons and London those two things alone were able to get me excited about reading this book. First off, for those of you Anglophiles who want to know if the London in this book is accurately rendered, yes, it is. I worked in and around London for a decade, and I could picture the streets through which the characters walked.

Secondly, if you want your protagonists walking, fighting, and fleeing through London streets teeming (teeming, I say!) with dragons, this is definitely the read for you.

This is a fast-paced young adult novel with an emphasis on action and strong visuals. Sensory image is vividly detailed and the fight scenes (is it right to call it a fight scene when most of the characters are flame-throwing, scale-wearing, ripping, shredding, and tearing quadrupeds?) are intricately plotted out. There is a lot of attention to detail in this book, but it doesn’t drag. Looking for action, action, action, and dragons? Make some action yourself, and grab this book.

Parents This is a good one to engage a less reading-enthusiastic young adult. It can be read in bite-sized chunks and the action is interspersed throughout to help maintain the pace. Don’t be surprised, however, when your reader gets to the cliffhanger at the end (blast you, Dragon Zoo authors–I need closure!) and demands you go to immediately to look for other books. Be aware, the book contains gore, very mild romantic interest, and some PG-13esque profanity.
This is great book for older children. The setting is London, dark and mysterious but intriguing all the same. The book is about dragons and how they took control of the world. These are not friendly dragons; more Smaug-like – powerful, terrifying and devious. They make a wonderful enemy.

I think apocalyptic books are always make interesting subjects for older children. It’s not a matter of dismally accepting the end of life as we know it. Instead, these books can offer scenarios for further discussions around the tenacity of human behaviour. They allow us to ask ‘what if’ questions that can help children reflect on their own life, character and what kind of future they want to build.

After the attack who will remain alive? What can they do against such a shocking foe? What’s next for humanity?

This book moves along quickly and the characters are real and believable. I was given a copy of this book for an honest review and I soon became engrossed in the story straight away. I’m sure your older readers will too. Do yourself a favour and grab a copy today.
Okay, so the premise of this book was pretty awesome. Who doesn't love dragons, right? But I was pretty disappointed with Dragon Zoo.

The plot seemed pretty predictable. It seemed like I was reading a dragon version of A Series of Unfortunate Events, where everything that could possibly go wrong did. And some of these things didn't particularly add to the plot. It just made everyone worse off in the end.

Overall, I took issue with some of the writing. It was an attempt at third person omnipotent. But it also kept switching back and forth between perspectives in the same paragraph, and it got really confusing.

One random note from an American there is no such thing as a penalty kick in American football. I appreciate the attempt at sports metaphors though.

Something that really bothered me was this someone who had never used a gun before suddenly had perfect aim. But then he couldn't throw worth a damn. Right.

The main redeeming quality is that Dragon Zoo is action packed from beginning to end, even though the end was kind of disappointing. Overall, I was pretty disappointed.
